Súp Trio + support. Right Here Right Now Festival. The Right Room* (On Stage) . *The Right Room is a new use of the stage space in Cork Opera House where the audience join the band on the stage for the show. Capacity is limited so advance booking advised. Cormac McCarthy – Piano Cormac McCarthy is a composer, arranger and pianist born in Cork, Ireland. He began studying piano aged four, and soon after discovered the joy of composition. He has gone onto perform and compose in a wide range of musical genres; from classical to jazz to Irish traditional music. In 2010, having completed his Masters degree in composition at the CIT Cork School of Music, Cormac received the prestigious Bill Whelan International Music Bursary from Bill Whelan, an award earmarked for young Irish composers studying abroad. He spent a number of years living in Chicago, where he completed a Masters in Jazz Studies at DePaul University. His compositions and arrangements have been recorded by such jazz icons as Phil Woods andJeff Hamilton. As a pianist, he has performed extensively at concert venues, clubs and festivals throughout Europe and the US, recording and performing with artists across numerous genres, including Peter Washington, Billy Drummond, Liz Carroll, Tony Miceli, Padraig Rynne, The RTE National Symphony Orchestra, The RTE Concert Orchestra. Cormac’s most recent project, Cottage Evolution centres around music he has written for a 12-piece ensemble, and features musicians from an interesting and diverse blend of musical backgrounds, in tandem with Súp. The project’s debut album has recently been released on the LYTE Records label to widespread acclaim. He is also a member of the forward-thinking Irish traditional group NOTIFY, whose new album InConcept,was released on Ropeadope Records in March 2016. Cormac lectures in piano, keyboard, arranging and composition at the CIT Cork School of Music, and is director of the Cork School of Music Jazz Big Band. Eoin Walsh – Bass Since first taking up the bass in his late teens, Eoin has become one of the most in-demand musicians in Ireland. Eoin has played alongside such musicians as Dónal Lunny, John Spillane, David Lyttle, Jean Toussaint, Robert Mitchell, Sylvain Barou and Pauline Scanlon and has worked on recordings both as a multi-instrumentalist and/or writer with artists such as Christian Eigner (Depeche Mode), Mick Flannery, David Lyttle, Colm K, Brian Deady and Jeremy Kittel. In 2016 Eoin featured on the InConcept album by contemporary Irish ensemble, Notify which was released on Ropeadope Records. Eoin has also been featured on releasesfrom labels such as Bastard Jazz, R2, Tummy Touch and Lyte Records and has performed on BBC and RTE radio and television programmes. Since 2013, Eoin has been member of the trio Súp, featuring Cormac McCarthy – piano, and Davie Ryan – Drums. In 2013, Eoin received a scholarship from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston and was also shortlisted for a Fulbright Award. Eoin holds a first class honours Bmus degree from the Cork School of Music. Davie Ryan – Drums Davie is a graduate of both UCC (1st class honours degree in Music) and of Cork School of Music (1st class honours Masters in Performance). He has extensive experience both nationally and internationally as a touring and recording musician in a range of diverse genres including, pop, jazz, folk, rock, world and traditional music. In 2015 he received an Individual Artist Bursary Award from Cork City Arts Council to undertake four weeks of intensive masterclasses in New York with renowned drummers/educators Kendrick Scott, Billy Drummond, Clarence Penn and Nate Smith. Acts that he works with on a regular basis include The Hard Ground, The Niall McCabe Band, Jack O’ Rourke, Padraig Rynne’s Notify, Cormac McCarthy’s Cottage Evolution, The Paul Dunlea Group, John Blek, Anna Mitchell, Karen Underwood and Marlene Enright. Since 2013, Davie has also been a member of the jazz trio, Súp.He has wide-ranging expertise as a recording artist and has worked with many renowned studio producers, including Grammy award winning Jay Joyce (Tragedy/Tragedy Studios, Nashville), Ciaran Byrne (Cauldron Studios, Dublin), Christian Best (Monique Studios, Cork) and John Fitzgerald (Lettercullum Studios, West Cork). He is also Senior Drum Tutor at the CIT Academy of Popular Music and at Music4Children. The first quarter of 2016 has included recording sessions for Notify’s new album InConcept (Ropeadope Records), John Blek’s new solo album, Jack O’ Rourke’s album Dreamcatcher, and The Paul Dunlea Group’s sophomore album.
